Privacy Policy

Letterstorm ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the Letterstorm app ("App") on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information (Classroom tier only). If you or your institution subscribes to the Classroom plan, we collect teacher and student display names, roster data, and custom word lists you create within the App.
- Support communications. If you contact us by email, we retain that correspondence to resolve your issue.
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage and gameplay data. We collect anonymised statistics about game sessions (rounds played, win rates, session length) to improve the App. This data is not linked to your identity.
- Crash and diagnostic reports. If the App crashes, Apple may share a crash report with us. These reports contain device type, OS version, and a stack trace. They do not contain personal identifiers unless you include them in a support message.
- Purchase history. When you make an in-app purchase or subscribe, Apple processes the transaction. We receive a non-reversible transaction record (type, date, and amount) to verify entitlements. We do not receive your payment card details.
Information from Apple Services
- iCloud / CloudKit. If you are signed in to iCloud, the App uses CloudKit to sync your coin balance, cosmetic purchases, and game save data across your devices. This data is stored in your private iCloud container and is not accessible to us.
- Game Center. If you use Game Center, your Game Center alias and achievement progress are displayed in the App. We do not store Game Center data on our own servers. Game Center is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Sign in with Apple. If you sign in with Apple, we receive only the information Apple passes to us (a unique identifier and, optionally, a name and email address). We use this solely to create and authenticate your account.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.
Data Sharing
We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Apple Inc. — iCloud, Game Center, StoreKit, and App Store services are operated by Apple under their Privacy Policy.
- Service providers. We may engage third-party vendors (e.g., crash-reporting or analytics tools) who process data on our behalf under data-processing agreements that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes.
- Classroom institutions. If your school or organisation holds a Classroom subscription, they act as a data controller for student roster data. We process that data on their behalf under a data-processing agreement.
- Legal requirements. We will disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
Children's Privacy
Letterstorm is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable law requires a higher age threshold) without verifiable parental or institutional consent.
- General consumer users under 13. The App does not require account creation for the free tier. iCloud sync and Game Center require an Apple ID; parental consent for those services is managed by Apple's Family Sharing and Screen Time controls.
- Classroom tier. Schools deploying the Classroom plan to students under 13 must ensure they have obtained appropriate consent under applicable law (e.g., COPPA, FERPA, GDPR for Schools). We act as a service provider / data processor for student data in that context.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child without proper consent, please contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.
Data Retention
- CloudKit data is retained until you delete your iCloud account or remove the App's iCloud data from your device settings.
- Anonymised usage statistics are retained for up to 24 months, then aggregated or deleted.
- Crash reports are retained for up to 12 months.
- Classroom roster data is retained for the duration of the active subscription and deleted within 90 days of subscription termination, unless a longer period is required by law.
- Support emails are retained for up to 3 years.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Delete your personal information ("right to be forgotten").
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to opt out of "sale" (we do not sell data), and to non-discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights.
EEA / UK residents (GDPR/UK GDPR). You have the rights listed above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest (CloudKit uses Apple's encryption). No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following Apple-provided frameworks, each governed by Apple's Privacy Policy:
- CloudKit — iCloud data sync
- Game Center — achievements and leaderboards
- StoreKit 2 — in-app purchases and subscriptions
We do not embed third-party advertising SDKs.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, provide an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
